Company history: From profession to calling

The people of Murat Lamm look back on a history of more than 40 years of success. It has been made possible by the continuous striving to perfect our products and win the trust of our customers. Süleyman Kabalar – founder of the company and father of the current managing directors Faik Kabalar and Mevlüt Kabalar – arrived in Germany in 1964 with the first generation of Turkish immigrants. In the beginning he worked for the car manufacturer Daimler, held in high esteem worldwide for its high quality. Süleyman Kabalar quickly recognised that by turning to his original profession as a shepherd and butcher, also exercised by generations of his forefathers in Turkey, he could open up new markets in Germany. He began by selling beef and lamb products made from animals he had slaughtered himself to colleagues, making use of his first Mercedes-Benz L 406 D transporter. Demand grew continuously so in 1972 Süleyman Kabalar founded the first Turkish butcher’s shop in Baden-Württemberg. A short time later he sold the then still “exotic” doner kebabs at street festivals and events.

The company also grew with the increasing popularity of the “doner”. In 1990 we were able to start doner production at the Böblingen slaughterhouse. This was upgraded as early as 1994 with the opening of another slaughterhouse in Gärtringen, which today still forms a cornerstone of Murat Lamm’s production. In Gärtringen customers could buy fresh meat from our own butcher’s.

Since 2008 Murat Lamm has been operating new production premises in Horb am Neckar in a space of 11,000 m2. It has a production capacity of 25 tonnes of meat per day. 60 employees work to the highest standards of hygiene. An in-house fleet of vehicles ensures maximum freshness thanks to short transport times.

The once simple butcher’s shop has today become one of the largest doner kebab producers in Germany. During our long and successful history we have always stayed true to the values of Turkish meat production. Our tradition is the heart of our company and the guarantee of the highest product quality.
